Overview
Recent months have seen a flurry of sanctions actions directed by the US at Hong Kong and China (and, to an extent, vice versa) in response to a number of geopolitical developments and deteriorating diplomatic relations. The sheer variety and extent of legal instruments and sanctions actions being undertaken in this area has arguably not been seen since 2014, when a number of different sanctions measures were introduced on Russia in response to the annexation of the Crimea.
The volume and variety of new measures poses significant compliance challenges for the sanctions community, which is navigating a complex geopolitical environment that is undergoing rapid and continuous change. ACAMS has been undertaking a number of virtual roundtables over the previous months to enhance cross-industry and public/private dialogue on the sanctions compliance matters arising from these fast-changing developments, and as an extension of this work we are delighted to be bringing together this expert panel.
This webinar will include contextualizing the geopolitical business risk environment, discussing the implications arising from recent legislative developments, analyzing executive and regulatory activity, and scoping what’s on the horizon – including potential countermeasures.
