SHELLEY NICHOLLS-HUNTE is an Attorney-at-Law of twenty-one years call at the Barbados Bar. She possesses a Bachelor of Laws ( Honours) Degree from the University of the West Indies and the Legal Education Certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago.
Mrs. Nicholls-Hunte commenced as Senior Analyst at the Financial Intelligence Unit in 2006 and thereafter commenced in the role as Director from December 2006 until the end of January 2020. As Director, Mrs. Nicholls-Hunte has represented the Government of Barbados and also served as speaker at several regional and international fora on (AML/CFT), anti-corruption and other financial crimes matters. She served as Chairman of the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (CFATF) Heads of Financial Intelligence Units Forum from 2018-2019.
She has assisted in the formulation of several key pieces of legislation including Barbados ‘ current Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (Prevention and Control) Act, 2011-23 and prepared the necessary legal research which lay the groundwork for the drafting of the Proceeds and Instrumentalities of Crime Act, 2019. She is currently the Legal and Compliance Manager at a Barbadian financial institution.
Mrs. Nicholls-Hunte is a trained assessor in the FATF Methodology 2004 and 2013 and served as Law Enforcement Examiner in the Mutual Evaluation Exercise of St. Maarten in 2012. She is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist since 2008 and has been a member of the ACCA Global Forum on Ethics since 2013. Mrs. Nicholls-Hunte is a certified trainer, speaker and coach with the John Maxwell (Leadership) Team.
