James Porteous, CAMS, is Senior Manager, Due Diligence & Research, at the Hong Kong Jockey Club, and acts as Research Head for the Asian Racing Federation’s Council on Anti-Illegal Betting & Related Financial Crime.
In both roles he conducts research into illegal betting markets, particularly their links to transnational organised criminal groups and financial crime, as well as their negative impacts such as corruption of racing and other sports and problem gambling.
He has worked at the Hong Kong Jockey Club since 2017 and before that spent 15 years as a journalist in Hong Kong and the UK. He holds an MPhil and MA from the University of Glasgow and will complete an MBA in December.
