Investigate and Prevent Illegal Wildlife Trade

Transnational illegal wildlife trafficking fosters corruption, threatens biodiversity, and generates up to US$23 billion in criminal proceeds annually. Developed in partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the Wildlife Justice Commission (WJC), this free certificate provides essential wildlife crime law enforcement training.

Global transnational criminal organizations (TCOs) see the trafficking of flora and fauna as a highly profitable and lucrative income source that carries low punishment. In this course, crime investigators and law enforcement officials will learn how to use financial intelligence to investigate and prevent illegal wildlife trade (IWT).

You’ll learn how to analyze suspicious activity report (SAR) data, initiate IWT investigations, analyze the links between wildlife trafficking and money laundering/fraud schemes, and solicit international cooperation to uncover the role of illicit financial flows from IWT. This course can be taken in sequence with our part one certificate, or as a standalone course.
