Shehu
Abdullahi Shehu is a Professor of Criminology and Consultant on Governance and Development issues. He has authored several books, including: “NIGERIA: The Way Through Corruption to the Well-being of a People” (2015); Strategies and Techniques of Prosecuting Economic and Financial Crimes (2012); and Economic and Financial Crimes in Nigeria: Policy Issues and Options (2006). He has also published several articles in international Journals, especially on Corruption, Good Governance, Development Cooperation, Transnational Organized, including Money Laundering. He speaks English and French languages.
Professor Shehu has a solid academic background with a doctorate degree in Comparative Criminology from the University of Hong Kong. He also has a vast experience in transnational organized crime, anti-corruption, money laundering and terrorist financing, as well as asset recovery. He has a rare mix of policy and law enforcement, as well as academic experiences spanning over 30 years in the Nigerian and international public services. He had the rare privilege of addressing the UN Security Council in May 2013 on “Peace and Security in Africa: The Challenges of the Fight against Terrorism in the Context of Maintaining International Peace and Security”.
Professor Shehu was program Expert, United Nations Global Program against Corruption. He served for eight years as Director General of the ECOWAS Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing in West Africa (GIABA).
Professor Shehu was the pioneer Secretary of the Presidential Task Force on Financial Crimes that metamorphosed into the EFCC, pioneer Director in the EFCC and pioneer Director of the Olusegun Obasanjo Good Governance & Development Research Centre at the National Open University of Nigeria.
