Overview
Governments are expanding their use of strategic trade and export controls — tools to restrict the export, import, international transit and transshipment of certain commodities to certain recipients. The use of these tools is increasingly prevalent both in the context of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war — as the G7 and its partners seek to “tighten the screws” on Russia — but also as part of growing restrictive measures on China. These developments pose new challenges for financial institutions and other industries in a constantly evolving environment. In this session, our expert panel will explain what is meant by strategic trade controls and assess the key information for FIs when it comes to rapidly evolving trade and export controls, including key challenges, best practices, regulatory guidance and likely future developments.
