Carlos Baixauli, Jr. is currently a Special Agent with the United States Department of Health and Human Services – Office of Inspector General.  Prior to joining HHS-OIG, he worked with the Miami-Dade County Office of Inspector General where he was charged with investigating fraud, waste, abuse, and public corruption cases involving Miami-Dade County employees and elected officials.  Carlos began his law enforcement career with the Coral Gables Police Department in 2004, where he served for 7 years as a detective in the Economic Crimes Unit. Following his time at the police department, he worked at both Bank of America and Santander Bank in their financial crimes and AML/BSA divisions.  Carlos is a Certified Fraud Examiner and Certified Inspector General Investigator. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Florida International University with a major in Criminal Justice.  He also holds a master’s degree in Public Policy from Liberty University and a master’s degree in Criminal Justice Forensic Investigations from Nova Southeastern University.  In addition to speaking here at ACAMS Carlos has given presentations at various local and national level industry meetings and conferences to include Financial Institutions Security Association (FISA), The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), and the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators (IAFCI).
