Answer

ACAMS enforces a waiting period of 30 days if someone does not pass on their first attempt.  After the first attempt, waiting periods differ by exam level. Waiting periods are common for professional certification exams. The waiting periods help support the validity of our exam results.  First, these are an exam security measure to prevent repeated testing in rapid succession with the intention of memorizing test questions.  Second, the waiting period ensures that those who fail spend the necessary time to prepare to pass the next time.  Although we recognize that our exam measures knowledge at a specific moment in time, companies that hire ACAMS-certified members expect that the passing score represents a stable understanding and not a result of immediate recall of memorized information.  As such, the waiting period encourages deeper understanding over cram-based recall.
