Astraea Douglas is an attorney-at-law and compliance professional with over 10 years’ financial services experience in both the public and private sectors. Astraea’s areas of expertise are securities regulation and AML/CFT compliance. Currently, she is Head of Compliance - International Commercial Banking, Private Wealth Management and Securities for CIBC First Caribbean International Bank (“FCIB”) where she provides compliance oversight and guidance for various lines of business in the bank’s wealth management segment.
Prior to joining FCIB, Astraea worked at the Trinidad and Tobago Securities and Exchange Commission (“TTSEC”) as Legal Counsel responsible for providing advice on the application and implementation of securities legislation. There, she was the Team Lead on the drafting of the Securities Act, 2012 and the successful application of Trinidad and Tobago to become a signatory to the International Organization of Securities Commissions Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding (“ISOCO MMOU”). She also represented the TTSEC before the Parliament of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and other key regional bodies.
Astraea is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist of the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia; a Juris Doctorate and Master of Business Administration from American University in Washington, D.C.; and a Legal Education Certificate from Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago.
