Uldis Cērps is a seasoned Latvian economist and financial sector leader with over 30 years of international experience in financial regulation, banking supervision, and capital markets. Since October 2024, he has been serving as the Chair of the Finance Latvia Association, representing the collective interests of the country’s banking and financial industry.

Cērps began his career in the 1990s, holding leadership positions at the Riga Stock Exchange and the Latvian Central Depository. In 2000, he became the inaugural Chair of the Financial and Capital Market Commission (FKTK), Latvia’s financial supervisory authority, a role he held for eight years.

From 2008 to 2017, Cērps worked at Sweden’s Financial Supervisory Authority (Finansinspektionen), where he was a member of the executive team and led the banking supervision department. He represented Sweden in the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision and the European Banking Authority and contributed to the Financial Stability Board and the European Investment Bank’s Audit Committee.

Prior to returning to Latvia, Cērps served as an advisor to the Governor of the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates. He is also a vice president of the Latvian Employers’ Confederation and a member of the Executive Committee of the European Banking Federation.
