Walker
Supervisory Special Agent (SSA) Laura Walker has over 14 years of health care fraud experience and currently serves as the Unit Chief of the FBI’s Health Care Fraud Unit (HCFU). In this role, SSA Walker oversees the FBI’s Health Care Fraud (HCF) program and leads a team of Supervisory Special Agents, Forensic Accountants, Management and Program Analysts, and contractors who manage and support the FBI’s HCF program nationwide.
Prior to serving as Unit Chief, SSA Walker investigated various types of health care fraud and drug diversion cases at the FBI’s Washington Field Office. As a case agent, SSA Walker successfully investigated and convicted numerous individuals and businesses, including a large-scale pill mill operation and other health care providers. SSA Walker has investigated a broad range of health care fraud cases, including sleep study and Durable Medical Equipment (DME), pharmacy, and pharmaceutical manufacturers. SSA Walker’s work resulted in significant jail sentences and penalties, including a multi-billion settlement with a pharmaceutical company.
SSA Walker also previously served as a SSA/Program Manager in the FBI’s HCFU where she oversaw investigations in the South-Central region of the United States and managed the Prescription Drug Initiative.
Before her assignment to the Washington Field Office, SSA Walker investigated other white-collar matters, including public corruption and mortgage fraud, in Northwest Indiana.
SSA Walker graduated from the College of William and Mary with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). Prior to joining the FBI, she worked in public accounting for two of the Big 6 firms and in the financial services industry.
