Overview
Ransomware attacks are a growing threat. Gen. Paul Nakasone of U.S. Cyber Command recently said “When I was here two years ago, if someone asked me about ransomware, I would say that’s criminal activity…but when ransomware affects critical infrastructure, it’s a national security issue.” FinCEN and OFAC have issued advisories in the past year indicating that ransomware is a major priority. Ransoms are almost always paid in so-called “untraceable” cryptocurrencies, but not only are blockchain transactions traceable, nearly all ransoms have facilitating dollar transactions conducted by financial institutions and ransom intermediaries, such as law firms and digital forensics and incident response (DFIR) companies.
The panel will discuss the complex issues that financial institutions face when trying to identify and mitigate ransomware situations. What can they do to identify possible ransomware situations? What are the financial crimes and sanctions risks? When should law enforcement be notified? This webinar is your opportunity to hear US Government and private sector experts address these important issues.
