Oleksii Berezhnyi is the Director of the NBU Financial Monitoring Department. He has extensive expertise in the banking sector. He successfully headed the compliance and financial monitoring directions in a range of Ukrainian banks, including UKRGASBANK JSB, PRIVATBANK PJSC, and UKRSOTSBANK PJSC.
Oleksii Berezhnyi has been working at the NBU for almost ten years. In 2014-2015 he headed the NBU Financial Monitoring Department. Earlier, in 2003-2012 he worked at various positions at the NBU, in particular, led the directions on prevention of use of the banking system for legalization of proceeds from crime and terrorism financing, financial monitoring, banking regulation and supervision, etc.
Oleksii Berezhnyi also has an extensive experience of work in other executive authorities. Thus, he held the positions of the Deputy Minister of Finance of Ukraine and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, worked in the Ukrainian Embassy in the USA. In addition, he was also engaged in research.
In 1981, Oleksii Berezhnyi graduated from the Cybernetics Department of the Taras Shevchenko National University. In 1996, within the framework of Pew Economic Freedom Fellowship Program he took a course of lectures and workshops on macro and microeconomics in Georgetown University (Washington, DC).
