Bernard is a native New Yorker and currently the global head of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Governance and Compliance Training for eBay. In his current role, Bernard is leading the efforts of building out a governance framework around eBay's newly developed AML compliance program and steering the company’s compliance training program. In addition, Bernard is the president of the Black Employees at eBay (BEE), an employee resource group (ERG), where he focuses on improving eBay’s workforce, workplace and marketplace for Black and African Americans.
Bernard has over 20 years of experience in financial services as both an attorney and as a compliance officer. Prior to joining eBay, Bernard served as a compliance officer for Goldman Sachs Asset Management, Securities Division and as the Americas head of global compliance training at Goldman Sachs. While at Goldman Sachs, Bernard led the Legal, Compliance and Audit Black Network ERG and served as COO for Goldman Sachs’ Firmwide Black Network ERG, steering global initiatives focused on career development for Black employees. Bernard has also served as in-house and outside counsel for various financial services firms on Wall Street where he specialized in alternative dispute resolution and retail securities claims litigation.
In addition to his work responsibilities, Bernard has led several pro-bono legal efforts for small business entrepreneurs, charitable organizations, entities and individuals seeking legal assistance. Bernard graduated with honors from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and obtained his Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School.
