Overview
Corruption exists at every level and segment of society. Every country experiences corruption to some degree. Corruption takes place in both the public and private sectors. It ranges from bribes paid to local public officials to high level politically exposed people diverting millions of dollars from their countries, to parents paying bribes to falsify college admissions for their children. Corruption has a corrosive effect on the rule of law, economic development and democratic principles. It serves as an enabler for criminal and terrorist organizations. Simply put, corruption poses a significant threat to national security, public safety, and the economy. Regardless of the form of corruption, there is one commonality, the dependence on money laundering.
This compelling session will:
- Discuss the interdependencies of corruption with criminal activity and terrorism and how those activities revolve around money laundering.
- Focus on the abuse of trust at the heart of corruption.
- Break down the problem, the challenge, and the solution.
