Cupid’s Arrow is costly for those who fall victim to Romance Scams. These scams created an estimated loss for 2022 was $3.3 billion, although the figure is likely higher, as underreporting is commonplace because of victims’ embarrassment from these types of scam.
But these scams typically combine romance scams with forced labor and investment scams. Thus you have the new terms financial grooming or pig butchering.
This dangerous arrow then hits victims cruelly on both ends. On one side of the arrow, job applicants are tricked into applying for high-salary jobs and then find themselves in forced labor. On the other side of the arrow are the victims in western countries who fall prey to the emotional and financial grooming tactics initiated by the same people forced to work in scam centers.
