Overview
Members of the ACAMS Brazil Chapter will have the unique opportunity for an in-person guided tour of the COAF facilities, Brazil's FIU.
The event will feature exclusive training lectures by COAF members, focusing on gaining a deeper understanding of COAF's operations and the AML/CFTP system. It will highlight the importance of effective communications that enable the agency to take further actions. Additionally, the event will address key issues in AML practices and assess progress in combating the financing of terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
This initiative is part of the actions of COAF to 'promote institutional dialogue with national, foreign, and international bodies and entities related to its activities', as well as to 'guide and provide feedback' on the application of AML/CFTP measures by obligated parties within the national scope, in line with Recommendation 34 of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

All affiliates who were selected have been added to a specific WhatsApp group to coordinate the details of the São Paulo - Brasília trip, including information about hotels and tickets. It is solely and exclusively the responsibility of the affiliate to cover the corresponding costs.

An online pre-selection process was conducted due to the limit of 25 spots imposed by COAF.
All spots have been filled, with 10 Board members and 15 Chapter affiliates attending. Additionally, there are 2 affiliates on the waiting list in case there are any unforeseen issues with the currently registered and confirmed participants.
Price:
Free of charge. However, the costs of transportation, accommodation, and meals are the sole responsibility of the affiliate.

COAF | FATF description (Brazil MER):
The Council for Financial Activities (COAF) is the financial intelligence unit of Brazil, and the central authority of the system to prevent and combat money laundering, terrorist financing and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (AML/CFTP), especially in the receipt, analysis and dissemination of financial intelligence information. It is also a council that provides a multi-agency forum involving heads of several government agencies responsible for aspects of Brazil’s AML/CFTP system. The COAF Plenary meets monthly and comprises the President and representatives of: BACEN, CVM, SUSEP, the General Attorney Office of the National Treasury, ABIN, the Federal Police, the Secretariat of Federal Revenue (RFB), the MRE, the Ministry of Justice and the CGU. COAF is also responsible for regulating entities in the financial and DNFBP sectors that are not subject to regulation by other governmental institutions. COAF, created by Law No. 9613 in 1998 and restructured in 2020, is administratively linked to the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB), endowed with of technical and operational autonomy. Previously, it was part of Ministry of Finance, and briefly, the Ministry of Justice.
