ACAMS Central Texas Chapter May 2025 Event: Case Study: Theft, Money Laundering & Abusing Official Capacity at UT Austin

Overview

Jason Zirkle, former Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Criminal Intelligence Analyst assigned within the Texas Rangers Public Integrity Unit, will provide a case study on the 2019 financial scheme perpetrated by a UT Austin facilities director. The scheme totalled nearly $1.6 million and involved funnelling 1payments to vendors who may have been friends and associates, falsifying travel documents and educational credentials, and manipulating procurement processes to make a host of questionable purchases with little oversight.
