Overview
The U.S. Capital Chapter is starting 2024 by presenting three interrelated yet independent webinars focused on the impact and consequences of geopolitics on terrorism, transnational crime and AFC compliance.
Webinar three focuses on the impact on financial institutions.
As the level of international tension increases around the globe, banks are increasingly being drawn into the geopolitical issues facing our country. In addition to being responsible for combating money laundering and terrorism financing, banks are being asked to play an ever-increasing role in matters of national security. In addition to their legal and regulatory AML/CFT requirements, there is an expectation that banks will use their resources to assist the government in detecting and reporting sanctions evasion, as well as to identify and report potential violations of export controls. Banks must understand these expectations and incorporate these risks into their overall AML risk management program. This session will provide insights into the current geopolitical environment as it affects banks, and provide tips on prevention, detection, and reporting strategies. Learning objectives and takeaways will include:
- Providing an overview of the geopolitical issues surrounding the banking industry.
- Discussing how banks are playing an ever-increasing role in national security.
- Discussing recent cases involving sanctions evasion and violations of trade restrictions.
- Providing tips on how to identify and report potential violations.
