Overview

There have been several television shows, books and documentaries on Pablo Escobar’s narcotics trafficking cartel and the events surrounding the untimely death of DEA Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena at the hands of Mexican drug cartel members.  ACAMS Carolina will have Steve Murphy, former DEA Special Agent and creator of Netflix drama “Narcos”, as well as Fernando “Fern” Cruz, former DEA Special Agent who worked the Camarena investigation, provide behind scenes experiences and their investigative measures.  During the discussion, we will talk on former narcotics trends and money flows that assisted Steve and Fern in their investigations leading to the identification of Escobar’s hideout and the murder of Camarena.  The discussion will focus on former activity but will also touch on current typologies that still exist today to assist financial institutions with risk mitigation and foster public/private sector partnerships with law enforcement.
