L. Kachelman III
John L. Kachelman III is the Assistant Attorney General for the State of Alabama where he has served since February 2013 in the Criminal Trials Division prosecuting various degree felonies around the State of Alabama, including those related to illegal gambling, illegal drug organizations, and other financial and personal crimes. He also has worked with Jones School of Law & Faulkner University as an adjunct professor in the past, teaching criminal law and helping develop a non-profit legal clinic to help non-profit organizations with various legal issues and questions.
John graduated cum laude from Freed-Hardeman University (Henderson, TN) in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration/Accounting and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical Studies. In 2004, he received his Juris Doctor from Cumberland School of Law and his MBA from Samford University.
Prior to his appointment as an Assistant Attorney General, Kachelman worked for over eight years in the Montgomery County District Attorney’s as a Deputy District Attorney where he tried over 40 felony trials and worked on various types of criminal prosecutions including all level of felony offenses and oversaw all civil asset forfeiture cases. He spent more than four years prosecuting the most violent cases in Montgomery on the Violent Crime Unit where he oversaw and prosecuted many capital murder, murder, home invasion and robbery cases.
