In Focus: Fraud Watch - February 2025

Joby is a global subject matter expert on cryptoassets, illicit finance and emerging threats. Joby has 18 years of experience and expertise in strategic policy making, critical thinking, threat and risk analysis across the U.K. Government, intelligence and regulatory community. In his previous role Joby was responsible for the management of the Financial Conduct Authority’s Strategic Assessment Team, overseeing a team of analysts tasked with delivering high quality intelligence reporting on money laundering, fraud, market abuse, corruption and other forms of criminality across the regulated sector.

As part of his role Joby has undertaken extensive regulatory and threat analysis of cryptoassets and represented the U.K. on a variety of high-profile engagements. Recently Joby has produced a range of thought leadership papers covering cryptoassets, their regulatory framework, the threat environment and cryptoasset business models. Joby has also had articles published relating to the importance of threat analysis and intelligence sharing.

Kim has spent the last 15 years in the anti-fraud space with a focus on financial services. She held VP level leadership roles in fraud operations, fraud policy and governance for Synchrony bank. She was the Sr. Product Manager for SAS Analytics anti- fraud solution and additional anti-fraud technologies used by global banks. Kim also spent time as a consulting manager within the financial crimes division of Grant Thornton managing public and private sector engagements with a focus on Identity Fraud, Risk Assessments and Anti-fraud technology.

Dr William Scott Grob, CAMS-FCI, CGSS, FRM, CAIA, is the Director of Research and Analysis, responsible for promoting quantitative research methods. He has built customized programs, such as the two Illegal Wildlife Trade certificates developed with the WWF & WJC and the two Ending Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking with the FAST Initiative & Polaris. Previously, he was the ACAMS AML Director for the Americas and Asia. Dr. Grob has over 25 years of financial and banking expertise. His most recent role was as Regional Head of Affiliates Management, HSBC, where he worked on mitigating financial crime and correspondent banking risks across Asia. His 12-year career at the bank also included managing risk within the Equity/FX prime brokerage business, Structured Funds business, and Hedge Fund units.
