    The Challenge

“ACAMS’ extensive global presence and globally recognized certifications were the deciding factor for us.”

Marjolein Noorda, Global Head Learning & Development Financial Crime & Fraud Prevention, ING

In light of increasing regulatory pressure and challenges worldwide, ING was seeking a proactive partner for their AFC solutions. With its presence in the US, Europe, and Asia, ACAMS aligned seamlessly with ING’s global reach.

The collaboration commenced with a specific goal in mind: bolstering ING's AFC expertise across all three lines of defense and setting a global standard. As the initial partnership evolved, ACAMS delivered dynamic, role-specific training journeys that built up to certifications for ING’s global teams.

    The Solution

"With more than 12,000 ING staff members who have completed ACAMS training, the CTMA and CKYCA certifications have been particularly valued by our first-line operations people."

Marjolein Noorda, Global Head Learning & Development Financial Crime & Fraud Prevention, ING

With strong management direction and support from ING, ACAMS provided a solution that included customized tools and frameworks and comprehensive training paths toward certification.

    Filling in the Gaps

Beyond fast remediation, ACAMS' approach extended to workforce assessments and identifying gaps. Custom solutions included:

    • Crafting courses in nine languages to adapt to ING’s diverse and global workforce
    • Establishing a steering committee, which allowed for strategic decision-making and regular meetings for ING to track progress and overcome challenges
    • Keeping ING’s workforce informed about the latest developments and regulatory implications with built-in alerts, ensuring they remain ahead of the curve
    • Implementing continuous monitoring and gathering user feedback, which not only drove staff engagement but also enabled ING to celebrate successes and continuously improve their learning experience

These efforts established the groundwork for a companywide training program.

A Tailored Training Program for ING

ACAMS’ holistic learning programs and frameworks are built specifically for organizations to upskill their teams. They also keep the momentum going through continuing education.

Recognizing the need for a comprehensive training solution for ING’s transaction monitoring (TM) and know your customer (KYC) teams, ACAMS built the CKYCA and CTMA certifications as part of ING’s training program. These certifications were then made modular and stackable, which enhanced their effectiveness.

Diverse learning paths were also created for various job roles within ING and this solution didn't just meet expectations – it exceeded them. ING’s customer due diligence (CDD) and TM screening teams’ close collaboration with ACAMS, coupled with a steadfast commitment to adapt offerings to align with common goals, led to resounding success.

    What’s Next

“It goes beyond using their services. As we enter the next phase, moving from remediation to extended learning and continuous improvement of staff knowledge, ACAMS continues to be a valuable partner.”

Marjolein Noorda, Global Head Learning & Development Financial Crime & Fraud Prevention, ING

ACAMS’ collaboration with ING has evolved beyond the initial reactive approach and has started to drive long-term value for ING. As ING and ACAMS have renewed their strategic partnership, ACAMS has begun incorporating custom training, enhancing dedicated ING learning events, and facilitating tailor-made webinars. Their relationship now involves joint planning, the evaluation of roadmaps, and collaborative efforts to achieve shared goals.

Continuous learning is still a cornerstone, helping new and existing staff improve their skills with access to the latest certificates, certifications, webinars, and premium resources. But they now collaborate on an elevated level of enterprise service and ACAMS is able to offer ING early access to innovations.

Together, ACAMS and ING have become a prime example of how the right collaboration can help drive business success. And it has even enabled ING to redefine what a robust AFC training program looks like.

ACAMS and ING have worked diligently to transform challenges into opportunities, highlighting the strength of their partnership and adaptability. And their shared dedication to excellence remains paramount in the ever-evolving landscape of financial compliance.
