ACAMS Greater Omaha Chapter January 2026 Virtual Event: Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) Typologies and Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) Investigative Methodology
Overview
Financial institutions and investigative professionals occupy a frontline position in detecting, disrupting, and reporting activity that facilitates human exploitation. Among the most complex and urgent threats facing today’s Anti-Money Laundering (AML) community is the identification of financial behaviors associated with Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). To deepen practitioner expertise and strengthen industry-wide vigilance, we are honored to host Jay Bogert, CAMS, Director of Threat Finance & Human Exploitation Investigations at PayPal Inc., for an in-depth virtual session on CSAM typologies, red flags, investigative indicators, and the evolving role of Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) in modern AML work.
With more than 20 years of investigative experience across financial institutions and the law enforcement and intelligence community, Mr. Bogert oversees strategy and development of investigative initiatives targeting terrorism financing, human trafficking, weapons proliferation, child exploitation, and other high-profile global threats. His background includes leadership and programmatic testing roles at PayPal and JPMorgan Chase, as well as service as a Special Agent within the U.S. Government.
During the 45-minute presentation, Mr. Bogert will explore the financial and behavioral patterns commonly associated with CSAM offenders, including payment typologies, transactional red flags, network behaviors, and laundering methodologies that often precede or accompany exploitation activities. A substantive portion of the session will focus on practical OSINT methodologies that can significantly enhance financial crime investigations of all stripes. Participants will learn how publicly available data can be used to identify aliases, trace digital footprints, enrich SAR narratives, and support cross-functional collaboration with law enforcement. Mr. Bogert will highlight both the capabilities and limitations of OSINT tools, along with considerations related to accuracy, ethics, and investigative scope.
The concluding 15-minute Q&A will provide participants an opportunity to engage directly with Mr. Bogert and explore specialized challenges or scenarios encountered within their own organizations. Join us for this timely and engaging session as we enhance our collective capacity to detect, report, and deter crimes that inflict real and lasting harm. Through deeper understanding and stronger investigative practices, AML professionals can play a pivotal role in safeguarding vulnerable populations and reinforcing the integrity of the global financial system.
