AFC Trends & Typologies: Navigating Crypto and Sanctions

Sam Cousins is a Senior Associate at ACAMS, where his work includes supporting public-private partnerships and strengthening ACAMS thought leadership pillar through the development of content on sanctions and risk, particularly the Sanctions Masterclass program and Global Monthly Update. Sam's work also focuses on countering ransomware financing, which includes enhancing industry awareness of the anti-financial crime risks associated with ransomware attacks and supporting the mitigation of those risks through policies, training and public-private dialogue.

Prior to ACAMS, Sam worked on the Sanctions Policy team at UK Finance - the trade association for the UK banking sector.

Seth Sattler, CAMS, is Director of AML at Oscilar, where he guides financial institutions through BSA/AML compliance from initial sales conversations through implementation and ongoing regulatory support. He also contributes to Oscilar's product roadmap with compliance-driven features and represents the company at regulatory forums while developing thought leadership content on AML best practices. Seth previously served as Chief Compliance Officer for multiple cryptocurrency companies, where he built AML programs from scratch, implemented transaction monitoring systems, and successfully navigated multiple regulatory examinations. Earlier while at a traditional financial institution, he optimized transaction monitoring scenarios and served as liaison between investigation teams and model management. Seth has served on international working groups focused on elder abuse, pig butchering, sanctions evasion, ransomware, and fraud prevention.

Nick Turner is Managing Associate General Counsel for Global Financial Crimes Legal Advisory at HSBC in Hong Kong. Prior to joining HSBC, Nick was in private practice in Hong Kong, where he advised multinational financial institutions and corporates on all aspects of compliance with economic sanctions, anti-money laundering, and anti-bribery and corruption laws and regulations. Nick previously served as a regional sanctions compliance officer for Citi in Hong Kong and as a Management Associate for Citi in the United States. He is licensed to practice law in New York and is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS).
