Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Supervisory Special Agent Evan Campanella currently oversees the Cyber Crimes Investigative Group in the HSI Baltimore Field Office, in addition to serving as the Commander of the National Capital Region – Rapid Response Team.
Special Agent Campanella began his career in law enforcement in 2004 as an Intelligence Analyst assigned to the New York High Intensity Financial Crimes Area (NY/NJ HIFCA), where he was responsible for producing intelligence reports and providing investigative case support for federal and state money laundering investigations. In 2006, Special Agent Campanella was hired as an HSI Special Agent by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and assigned to the New York Field Office’s El Dorado Task Force. As a member of this task force, Special Agent Campanella investigated large-scale, complex money laundering organizations and conducted outreach with the financial sector to establish working relationships and communicate HSI’s capabilities in this space.
In 2012, Special Agent Campanella was selected to start a new HSI office in Hendersonville, North Carolina. While assigned to HSI Hendersonville, Special Agent Campanella worked investigations involving narcotics smuggling, child pornography, money laundering, and Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO). To support the newly-formed HSI office and increase cooperation with law enforcement partners, Special Agent Campanella developed and maintained working relationships with all state, local and federal agencies within the area of responsibility.
In 2015, Special Agent Campanella was selected for a Temporary Duty Assignment at the National Targeting Center – Investigations (NTC-I), where he was the National Program Manager for several programs combating the exploitation of the United States trade and financial systems. In 2017, Special Agent Campanella was selected to a temporary promotion to HSI Headquarters where he was the co-founder of the HSI Innovation Lab, a government owned and operated software development firm, before returning to the field in his current position at HSI Baltimore in 2019.
