Federal Agent James (Jim) Astley has been an investigator with the AFP for over 20 years. Whilst with ACT Police, he was designated Detective and investigated serious crimes including sexual assaults, murders, robberies and fraud matters.
As part of AFP National Operations, FA Astley was an investigator in the Counter-Terrorism Team, and worked as Counter Terrorism Liaison Officer in the Philippines from 2012 to 2016, where he specialised in social media exploitation.
FA Astley has been working in cybercrime investigations since 2019, and is the AFP case officer for Operation Birks – a joint AFP/ASIC investigation into a cybercrime syndicate targeting Australian superannuation funds.
