Lisa Singh is Head of Government Advocacy with Walk Free, an international human rights organisation working to end modern slavery, powered by the Minderoo Foundation. Lisa previously served as an Australian Senator from 2011 until 2019 representing the state of Tasmania. Prior to that she served as a Tasmanian Member of Parliament and Minister in the Tasmanian Government. Lisa was the first woman of South Asian heritage to be elected to the Australian Parliament and, as a Senator, she played an instrumental role in the development of Australia’s Modern Slavery Act. She is also the Deputy Chair of the Australian Government’s Australia-India Council and a Board member of the University of Melbourne’s Asialink. She has an ancestral connection to indentured labour in her family through her great-grandparents.
