Alex Engel is the Assistant Secretary for Transnational Crime at the Australian Attorney-General’s Department. He has policy responsibility for a range of transnational, serious and organised crime issues, including leading proposed reforms to Australia’s anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing regime. Previously, Alex held national security positions in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and Department of Home Affairs, including on domestic national security, violent extremism, people smuggling and international cyber affairs.
