Gunnison
Michael J. Gunnison is a senior counsel in Crowell & Moring’s Doha office. He joined the firm with more than 36 years’ experience as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of New York, and the District of New Hampshire, where he specialized in white collar and cross-border criminal investigations. He served as Criminal Chief, First Assistant U.S. Attorney, and Acting U.S. Attorney in New Hampshire.
Between 2004 and 2021, Mr. Gunnison served in five overseas assignments including U.S. Rule of Law Coordinator in Iraq, and Resident Legal Advisor to eight countries of the Arabian Peninsula. He holds a service record with more than 10 years’ combined DOJ service in the Middle East. He also worked in the DOJ Fraud Section, and handled cases involving international bribery, corruption and defense contract fraud in Afghanistan as Associate General Counsel for the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction. He concluded his DOJ career in Qatar (2018-2021), where he worked with Qatari and U.S. interagency partners on AML/CFT and sanctions issues, and served on a joint bilateral information and intelligence team under Article 74 of Qatar’s AML/CFT Law.
