Adv. Lawrence Muravha is a qualified lawyer who has been admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of South Africa in 2005. Also an AML/CFT compliance professional with over 15 years’ experience within the Banking and the Financial Services Industry.
Lawrence currently heads the Group Financial Crime Department at African Bank Limited with a specific focus on the Financial Crime Compliance, Financial Crime Operations, the Anti-Bribery and Corruption Compliance Program and the Group Forensics Function.
Also appointed as the Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Officer for the Bank in terms of Section 42(A) of Financial Intelligence Centre Act, 2001. He participates in range of industry meetings under the umbrella of the Banking Association of South Africa and the South African Banking Risk Information Centre (SABRIC), where he acts as an Accountable Executive for African Bank Limited and a member of the Regulatory Crime Risk Expert Working Group and the Illicit Flow of Funds Work Group. He is a member of the Compliance Institute of South Africa and approved as a FAIS Compliance Officer, License category I, Compliance Practice number 6075.
Lawrence has been instrumental in the revamp of African Bank Limited AML/CFT Compliance function where he has involved in multiple implementation of AML/CFT programs, systems and, policies, standards and procedures. Key projects, include the implementation of AML/CFT systems in 2015, FIC Amendment project of 2017, Implementation of the risk based methodology, risk assessment tools, Risk Management and Compliance Program and AML training.
