Overview
Conflict-induced displacement often increases the risk of human trafficking and human smuggling, as refugees and displaced persons are inherently vulnerable and at risk of exploitation. Traffickers often target people in desperate situations and smugglers take advantage of conflict areas for profit. Financial institutions can assist investigations by proactively monitoring accounts for suspicious activity relating to human trafficking or smuggling. During times of conflict, it is imperative that financial institutions stay proactive and vigilant in order to effectively fight the potential exploitation of displaced people fleeing conflict.
