Andrew Walter is the First Assistant Secretary of the Regulatory Legal Division in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). The Division has responsibility for international sanctions, Australia’s foreign arrangements scheme and transnational crime issues. Prior to joining DFAT in 2022, Andrew worked in the Attorney-General’s Department where he was responsible for legal policy issues in the areas of: human rights, corruption, criminal law, national security, fraud, foreign influence, privacy and administrative law. From 2017-2022, Andrew was the Chair of the Council on General Affairs and Policy of the Hague Conference on Private International Law.
