Lara Murad is the United States Treasury Attaché to the UAE and Oman, based in Abu Dhabi. Her tenure began in January 2021. As the Treasury Attaché she represents Treasury’s financial, economic, development, and national security interests in the UAE and Oman.

Lara has spent over ten years working across both the US government and private sector. She joined the US Department of the Treasury in 2015, where her work has focused on US sanctions policy, combatting illicit finance activity and money laundering, and countering terrorist financing.

Lara’s previous experience includes leading a team of geopolitical analysts conducting data-driven research into the political and economic dynamics of the Middle East, as well as the growth of cyber security in the region. She has worked on projects supporting a number of US government agencies, including the Department of Defense, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Lara holds a BS in Foreign Service from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, and an MA in International Affairs from American University’s School of International Service.
