Overview
Traditionally, the majority of AML investigations are reactive - the result of system-generated alerts, law enforcement referrals, etc. – and follow a standard investigative process. But successfully identifying, reporting, and mitigating illicit financial activity requires proactive efforts and tailored analytics approaches that leverage non-traditional partnerships and sources of information. This presentation will showcase a number of recent analytic efforts by the Western Union FIU’s Office of Strategic Intelligence targeting counterfeit goods, child exploitation and tax evasion that demonstrate the benefits, but also the challenges, associated with these kinds of projects.
